  • THE GATES opened this past weekend in NYC...

     BILL YOU SAY?
    NAH...

      THE GOLDEN ONES?
    NAH...

    These GATES...

This was created by the creative couple on the right.  They decided to pluck $21 million for this bad boy to be in Central Park from Feb 12th - Feb 27th.  The concept was developed in 1979 and granted permission in 2003. (Talk about a wait list!)  There are 7,500 gates all along the footpaths of the park.

Wait.  I'm sorry.  Did you say "21 MILLION DOLLARS?"

That's bananas!  For something that expen$ive they couldn't leave it a little longer?   .
I walked through 2 nights ago and was not impressed.  Maybe because I saw it at night?  Well you can't beat anything with the NYC backdrop in the background.

Ok, Ok I'll see it during the day.  Well, I got my chance when I took my kids to ice skate the next day.  Nah.  Felt the same.  I mean it looks like orange shower curtains all over the park.
Oops.   My bad.  I meant "Saffron".  Well, art IS subjective but it didn't impress this fellow New Yorker.  It did look kinda nice when there was a breeze and in the above black and white pictures but in color?...Nah.

Already we have dumbasses trying to run and jump and touch the shower curtains and knowing New Yorkers, 5 of them will probably be missing, 4 vandalized, 3 will be knocked over, 2 sold on Ebay and 1 put upside down.

    Now THAT'S art.  .

  • ok thats really stupid.. and ugly... not to mention it will take more money to maintain that shit... and not have ugly little kids climbing the poles to cut the fabric off... thats retarded... this is not art...

  • I guess with all the other colors, you really cant see the 'beauty' of it.  The photograph makes it nice cuz it accents it with a blk and wht background.  ehh..oh wellz..I still prefer the Met..been to MoMA lately?...and when r u coming to BU..weather's getting better now..hehe...and the new Agganis Arena has been attracting a few celebs: Maroon 5 and Sting r coming to hold concerts.

  • what are they for?

  • haha.... i would think it was a little cool.... orange is the best color! yeah.... i'd want one... but ehh...

  • iono like 5803948503845083058035 times?!  lol jp...what if i dun wanna use commas huh?!!

  • i went and saw them - i thought they were great. i think the city benefits from having people visit central park esp this time of year when most ppl would rather stay inside somewhere warmer... it also helps to create community energy... ah whatever. you didn't like it. i liked it. leave it at that...

  • it looks nicer if you look at the gates from above but 21 million is a waste, they could've fed a country or something.

  • 21 friggin million- can you say vacation till yur 85?! haha i need a redenvelope about 21 mill haha

  • no one can do it like them new yorkers. hahaha:) hardcore.

wait...wait...21 million is a lot of money. WTH?!

  • yeah i wasnt thrilled with the gates either

  • well, money wise, it's the couple who's sponsering it.  they're also the couple who put a bunch of parasols over japan.  they have money to burn aparently for art. and i guess it's good for new york because someone got paid some good dough to make a bunch of curtains.

  • Creative but I think they distract the natural beauty of NYC and the park.

  • wow, only in new york.  why is lover, ahem, i mean yur brother freaking you out?  I WANT TO KNOW!  lol

  • tell me why they spent 21 million on this?!

  • hahaha, only in NY! :-} now can u imagine how crazy it'd be if we wound hosting the olympics here? oy ...

  • i dont get the point of those things. they should've just use the money to pay off our deficit!

  • Hmm i really wanna see that, to see if i feel the same way. i've heard alot of negativity over those gates, everyone i know seems not to like them. lol.
i really agreee that that money could've been put to better use, they could've helped so many people with that. oh well.
Btw, thanks for the birthday greetings. lol, have loads of fun partying for me this weekend. lol.
    Laterz. :)

  • so you dont think the saffron thing is worthwhile hmm? i kind of want to go see it. saffron is a very expensive fabric. so i guess hence the 21 million. but really... 21 mill is a LOT of money. maybe theyre claiming its more to save on taxes. hehe;

Hunter sucks. their bunny was flat, i kept falling and not being able to get up easily since it was so flat, took me 45 mins to get down. it was pretty pathetic. their green was much better. Hutner has not so well groomed trails... i really miss vermont since thats where i had my best experience. plus i was spoiled by the nice vermont snow.... when i fell at Hunter, my azz really hurted.

and i just got Hunter passes for free too. puahahaha. How was Okemo? im sure it was pretty nice rite?

  • son that song is my jam!!!! hahahahahah

Well i cant wait to see the three point contest

    facials all day

  • haha yeah i just change my page just for a while i will change it again don't know when thou lol.  I haven't seen the "New Art" in central park yet just saw in the daily news I don't see the whopla about it. but it's true what u said soon they're going to be vandalized because we have no good hoodlums in nyc.

  • lol... how'd i know u'd be the one to make a wisecrak about my lil self analysis quiz thingie!! lol  btw, like this entry of urz! *propz*

  • o_O ? is there symbolic meaning to these orange shower curtains? am i missing something?

  • I'm glad to finally see an update.

My friend that lives in NYC sent me a text message yesterday that said she was walking through the orange gates in central park and since I am completely detatched from current events I had nooo clue what the hell she was talking about.. thanks for filling me in.

    be there

  • Can't you all see that sometimes it's worthwhile to do something sort of irrational.  Think about it, the money was spent for nothing other than for people to get together, talk, an enjoy something which is not utilitarian.  In a sense it is like investing in the people.  Most of the money spent was not even from NYC.  By the way, people's reaction to abstract art and cubism was just as mixed 70 years ago.
